Breaking Barriers: Empowering Youths in Sports

The Joseph Waswa Foundation continues to make a lasting impact in Webuye West Constituency, this time by empowering young people through sports and talent development. Recognizing the power of sports as a unifying force and a platform for growth, the foundation has launched several sporting initiatives aimed at engaging the youth and nurturing their potential.

Across wards in Webuye West, the foundation has organized and supported football tournaments and community sports days — drawing participation from hundreds of young men and women. These events not only promote physical fitness and teamwork but also provide an opportunity for youth to showcase their talents and stay away from negative influences.

“We believe that sports can open doors,” said Joseph Lendrix Waswa, founder of the foundation. “It teaches discipline, builds unity, and offers young people a chance to dream bigger. Through these activities, we are investing in a future of purpose and potential.”

Key Highlights:

  • Annual Webuye West Sports Tournaments supported by the foundation

  • Kits, trophies, and training equipment donated to local teams and schools

  • Mentorship sessions from local coaches and role models

  • Talent scouting opportunities for promising players

  • Promotion of peace, unity, and social inclusion through sport

Beyond competition, the sporting activities have created a platform for community dialogue, leadership training, and positive youth engagement. In areas where unemployment and drug abuse threaten the youth, these programs offer a much-needed alternative path.

The foundation’s approach goes beyond one-off events; it focuses on sustainable youth development through consistent support and follow-up. Plans are underway to establish community training camps, facilitate inter-county matches, and partner with professional clubs to help local talent rise to the national stage.

Changing Lives, One Game at a Time

The Joseph Waswa Foundation remains committed to building a stronger Webuye West by unlocking the potential of its young people — on and off the field.

Empowered youth = a transformed community.
